| One of the culverts on the Workington to Maryport stretch of railway that was filled in several years ago has been excavated recently by Cumbria County Council. Work is currently in hand to deapen the culvert by underpinning and reinforsing the butresses. This culvert is located between the seashore and the main road connecting Maryport with Workington at Risehow. The culvert is wider than others south of it as it was extended to allow traffic to pass over it to enter and leave the Risehow Colliery and By-Products site. The culvert is built in stone on the seawards side, whereas it is engineered in brick on the landward side. One can see where the culvert was once filled in by the discolouration of the brickwork. |
